oops

This will be a quick post and it will serve two purposes. (1) Revealing my sometimes idiocy. (2) Removing the word “loaf” from appearing at the top of my blog.

(1) Last night as we were driving to a local milkshake place with some friends after a total dessert fail [more on that tonight], I told Rob that I thought I could already tell a difference in how I felt after cutting out dairy for just two days. And then, clearly not thinking, I ordered a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup milkshake and was halfway into devouring it before realizing and blurting out, “This is dairy!” uh…DUH. And then I proceeded to eat the rest of it. :)

(2) I just ate some lentil loaf pie for lunch. And it was tasty. I love when things get better after sitting a day or two.

I bet it was tasty, nonetheless! Why did you decide to give up dairy? I have been dairy free as of late because I was having lots of cold/mucous problems and terrible break-outs…at first it was very difficult without my daily FAGE’s but I truly feel great now :)

That’s exactly why I gave up dairy…I’m having cold/mucous problems too so I’m experimenting to see if it helps. I miss yogurt and cheese! Did your problems really go away once you nix dairy? Did you nix ALL dairy?

Teri,
I had several colds last year (and the years before) and never thought it could be dairy related. I started thinking about the foods I ate and had heard dairy could be a culprit but really didn’t want to believe it. I ate mostly yogurt (probiotics are supposed to be good for you, right?) and was eating alot more cheese than I had in the last few years (I was nearly vegan for awhile, not anymore)…so I started asking girlfriends who don’t eat dairy lots of questions and they all said similar things about feeling healthier without it. I have heard and read that it can take app. a month to notice any changes at all and about 3 months to really start feeling better. I went a month without dairy and was feeling well (no more morning grossness and my skin was looking clearer) and then had yogurt for a few days straight to see if my problems would come back….they SURE DID! So, it confirmed that at least for now, I am better off without it. At first I was baffled as to what to eat without my dairy but honestly, I just don’t think about it anymore. I have replaced my yogurts with lots of green smoothies, creamy sweet potatoes, avocado (can you tell I LOVE creamy things?) and more bananas. I have to pay more attention to getting enough fat into my diet as I don’t eat too much meat and a vegan diet plays a number on my hormones…anyhoo, everyone is different and just has to figure out how they feel best. Good luck to you, be patient and feel well! PS – I tried coconut milk yogurt and it was pretty good…too much sugar and not enough protein compared to Greek yogurt but nice for a treat :)

Thank you so much for your comment! I’m so sick of this crap in the back of my throat (it’s not just the morning for me, it’s ALL day) that as much as I love dairy, it’s worth a shot. And the #1 thing I care about (i.e. ice cream), I’ve already found a replacement for in case milk turns out to be the problem. :) I guess I should stick it out for longer than a week before I rule out dairy as the culprit. Please let me know if you have any other advice/thoughts; I really appreciate it! :)
