Tunes for Tuesday

by Teri on August 31, 2010 · 51 comments

Good morning! Guess who was in bed at 7:50 with the lights out at 8:30? Oh, that would be me. I was so exhausted last night. After all that sleep, I thought I’d rock Body Pump this morning but it was still tough.

It’s been a while since I posted some music and this is one of my favorite cycle playlists lately. There’s enough variety that I think I please almost everyone in class.

Capture

I’m currently sucking down a green smoothie; it’s been way too long since I’ve had one of these. Frozen banana + strawberries + flax meal + heaps of spinach = power breakfast. However, green smoothies rarely keep me full unless I add peanut butter or yogurt. I wasn’t feeling those flavors this morning, so I’ll be having a piece of toast with PB on the side.

Speaking of toast…you know my whole wheat flax bread that I love? Well, I didn’t have enough whole wheat flour in the house when I made it on Sunday so I subbed something else in. And it’s amazing. Possibly even better than the original. Stay tuned. :)

Alright, I need to to put on my suit and nylons and head out the door. Have a great day!

What’s your favorite workout song lately?

Do green smoothies keep you full until lunch? If so, what do you add to them to keep you full?

I sooo need new music to work out to! I have been hitting “next” on my Ipod for every workout the last few weeks! Definitely going to add some of these.

I’m curious about the smoothie answer, too. They just don’t keep me full long enough–even with protein powder.

MGMT and Radiohead!? Would you like to move to DC and teach classes? I’ve started listening to a lot of techno (weird, I know) and I currently in love with Medina “You and I.”

I actually would LOVE to move to D.C.! :) I’ve never heard of Medina. I’ll have to check that out! I love techno for cycling classes – the beat is perfect!

I LOVE smoothies! You’re right though, if I don’t add some greek yogurt, they don’t stick with me all that long. I’ve found that adding heavier fruits and veggies can sometimes prolong it though (like a banana or avocado).

my song of the moment is definitely flo rida’s ‘club can’t handle me’. the lyrics of maroon 5′s ‘misery’ can be hilariously appropriate on tough days too :)

i find your smoothie question thought-provoking. my longstanding approach has been that calories/density do not necessary equal satisfaction for me. i need to chew. crunch. so i rather keep the drink a little lighter, and have a bit of a snack on the side to keep me going until lunch!

14 Teri August 31, 2010 at 8:00 pm

I don’t know either of those songs. I’ll have to download them.

You know, I think that might be it. I totally need a chew/crunch factor to feel satisfied! I never thought of that!

I am so jealous that you were in bed at 7:50! I wanted to go to BodyPump so badly today (um, and last week), but I’ve had some physical things going on preventing me from doing so. Hopefully my issues will be resolved soon and I can get back into my routine! Now that summer is nearly over I can say I’m trying to get into shape for the holidays. ;)

Hi love!! I make the green smoothies with about 500+ calories in them. I don’t sit there and count, but that is typically what it ends up being. Things I like to add [not always all of these things]: 3T rolled oats : small handful of almonds or walnuts : 1-2T chia seeds [these really help] : 1 whole banana : 1+ T PB or AB : 1/2c plain yogurt with some fat in it – Typically those are the things I add to bulk up the smoothie :) Hope you have a great day!

Reply

18 Teri August 31, 2010 at 8:01 pm

woah – those are all such great ideas! I remember you putting oats in yours but totally forgot about that. And I have chia seeds but sometimes the gummy texture they make grosses me out. I should probably add some other things so they aren’t so prominent. Actually, what I should really do is just follow your recipes for smoothies on your blog; I always just feel so silly looking up recipes for smoothies, ya know? haha

Smoothies only keep me full when I add Greek yogurt and/or some sort of fat to them (usually coconut oil). Protein powder is better than nothing, but it doesn’t satisfy me as much as yogurt, despite having about the same amount of protein!

Favorite workout song(s) right now? “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz and “Cooler Than Me” by Mike Posner. I recall you tweeting that you like that one as well :)

Oh – and I’m loving how you have MGMT and Cold War Kids on your playlist, by the way!

It’s funny because smoothies keep me full longer than ANY other breakfast: oats, toast, eggs…everything. I usually add protein powder, so maybe that’s the trick…? I don’t know.

My fave workout band is 3OH3! – anything by them pumps me up to the maximum.

Thanks for the new playlist! It sounds great. I don’t think I’ve gone to bed that early in YEARS and years, except maybe when I’ve had jetlag or been sick. That must have felt great to get so much sleep!

I currently like Adam Lambert (yep, I said it) new song “If I had you”–pretty catchy if I do say so myself :)

I LOVE MGMT. I’m probably the last person on earth to discover them, but “Electric Feel” is such a great song. I’m a big fan of going one of two ways – crazy mashups (LOVE Girl Talk and Team Canada) or super mellow like Coldplay, John Mayer, etc. Sometimes having crazy music blaring in my headphones just stresses me out on a run.

I add TONS of peanut butter into my GM’s but I almost always have a decent sized breakfast so I have no idea how filling they are!

Green smoothies never really keep me full so what I’ve started to do is make them really light (mine have 1 scoop of Amazing Grass, 1 tsp chlorella, 1/2 tsp spirulina, 1 tsp maca, 1 cup almond milk) and then I’ll have it alongside oatmeal or whatever else I feel like having for breakfast. I get my greens in but also something filling. :)
