1) You’ll instantly feel more relaxed.
2) Because you probably sat in front of a computer screen all day.
3) Instead of reading blogs, you’ll have time to read books. Reading will improve your writing, which will improve your blog. But I suggest you read without an agenda. Read for the simple pleasure of reading…….Need ideas? Check out my Goodreads page.
4) That nagging headache just might go away.
5) Your Google Reader will get so big that you won’t even think twice about marking all as read.
6) Because your significant other is jealous of your friendships with other bloggers.
7) You’ll have more time to bake something delicious. Preferably something involving chocolate.
8)You have time to sit and do absolutely nothing. I won’t even tell you to meditate or whatever. Just sit and stare out the window. See how long you can do it. If you can’t sit for 5 minutes without going crazy, your life might be too crazy. Take time just to be.
This is Maizey’s version of doing absolutely nothing.![]()
9) Maybe you’ll actually get 8 hours of sleep!
10) Because life passes us by too quickly. Don’t let everyday life get in the way of actively participating in life. Play with your dog. Eat chocolate. Take a bubble bath. Watch the sunset. Go for a walk with someone you love. Call someone you love. Write in your journal. Write a thank you note. The internet will still be here tomorrow.
{BTW, I went to a Glee party tonight even though I’ve never really watched Glee. I could see myself getting hooked. But maybe it was just because I love the gals there. (I discovered one of them is a blogger. Check out her beautiful fashion blog!) And…guess who was there! Annie!!! Look how big she is! Remember when she was a wee pup?}
What will you gain by turning OFF the computer? I won’t be offended if you choose to just shut your browser instead of commenting.

I needed to read this – like right NOW.
Today was super long and I am already up past my bedtime. I have a 4:30 Am wakeup call waiting for me, and I have to go apologize to the Husband for yelling at him for watching the TV too loud and slamming a door. ::sigh:: I must be tired.
Power button is turning off NOW!

I LOVE this post. I have a post in my queue titled step away from the computer. I feel like I’m turning into a couch potato because I’m on the computer all the time. It’s not very “healthy living” of me. haha
Yes, yes, and YES. We bloggers are a crazy bunch when it comes to time on the Internet, eek! Sometimes I truly consider getting a computer-less job and becoming a hippie.
(seriously)
On that note…goodnight!
xo

bahahaha! Good night Teri
good niiiight!
I had such a good time watching Glee, too! So nice to finally meet you
LOVE this post!
I needed this to tell me to get to bed, so I’m not tired in the morning! Plus, I have a new book to start and get addicted to – the first in the series was awesome.

What series are you reading?
Yeah, I’m guilty of not shutting down the comp. But I have definitely been reading more since it is one of my resolutions!
great post! i try to remember this every day. sometimes it’s so easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of technology and forget about spending time with loved ones! we can all use gentle reminders like this one

Gooooood idea… I had just fallen down the rabbit hole of blog hopping, even though my leg is falling asleep and I could use some extra Zzz’s!

Love this post. Love it!
Thanks Teri. I not only needed to read this but so does the husband. I’ll have to share this. Thanks again.
My internet was down all day today and I thought I was going TO DIE. Thanks for this simple reminder that there is so much more to life than staying caught up on our favorite blogs, facebook, etc. It really does suck us in!

THANK YOU for the reminder. I’ve been blogging less and enjoying life a lot more lately. I wish I could do something fun when I close the browser, but I have research to do =/

AAH THANK you for this! I’ve recently been staying up WAY too late reading blogs! A lot of it is because I feel like I have to comment back on every person’s blog who wrote on mine because they took the trouble (not that I don’t WANT to or anything, but it just takes FOREVER!) so I really needed to read this! Thank you

Wait you are so right..that nagging headache + lack of sleep is all due to my Google Reader. Time to power off!

I did this last night. I marked all my favorite blogs as read and watched tv with my husband. It was relaxing.

I have been doing this the past few nights… turning off the computer at least a half hour before I go to bed, so I can actually read a book. I feel like I am in front of the computer all the time, and sometimes it feels nice to not be on it.
What a wonderful post! I need to do this more often and also be okay with “marking all as read on my google reader.
I <3 this.

Too bad my boss wouldn’t understand my need to turn off my computer right now
I have been unplugging more often at home and doing other things I enjoy – cooking, reading, writing, playing piano again. It’s nice to give my eyes a break from the screen.
Great post!
I was exhausted last night around 10:45pm but laid in bed anyways with my phone because my google reader is overflowing with unread blogs.
Your post was the first one I read and I’m so thankful I did!
I went right to bed after reading it
p.s…I made your rice bowl the other night for dinner and it was amazing and super healthy. My husband LOVED it. We had leftovers for lunch the next day and will definitely make it a weekly meal in our home!
Love your blog…and your red hair! I turn 30 on Sunday and am deciding to go red for a change and a new decade!

since i am currently at work..turning off my computer is not an option…but I have implemented unplugged nights with the kids. We sit around and play board games, card games or do crafty projects..then I spend the rest of the night cleaning up..lol..

I really need to start Outlander #4 so I can bring words like “wee” and “arse” back into my vocabulary!! Also, more on topic, Brent and I have been getting off our computers and having reading/snuggle sessions at night instead! Waaaay more fun, especially when they involve hot cocoa

Dang, I am at work so I must keep staring at the computer. But at least I get to read blogs when I have a free minute instead of doing Quickbooks.
I read two books while in Mexico. I forgot how nice it is to read a book.

OMG, I need to read this post EVERYDAY! I spend so much time (all day) on the computer and so neglect the other parts of my life (husband, exercise, house, puppies, family).
I often think of why I blog. What do I gain from it that makes it so worthy of attracting all of my spare time. The answer is nothing.
Thanks for this awakening!
BTW, I made your peanut butter banana chocolate chip breakfast cookie the other day and will link it to you in a later blog post. XOXO

I do have to admit that turning off the computer, at least, 1 hour before I go to bed does help me sleep.
love it!
This is so ironic, because I just said “one more blog and I’ll go read my book” to myself. So really, this is the last blog I’m reading tonight.
