Happy Weekender! I have today off and I’m trying to think what to do with myself other than lie in bed and read books and magazines (which is pretty much what I did all day yesterday other than a failed attempt at the dog park). It’s too cold outside to go hiking, I’m trying to save money so shopping is out too, and cleaning is not in my book of approved day-off-work activities. While I continue to ponder, you can read….
The Weekender
- I’m totally craving Shrimp Scampi now.
- These cuban black beans take only 15 minutes. Bam.
- Is being healthy a matter of willpower? Or avoidance? I think this article is on to something.
- I love figs. I love eating them right off the tree. But I’ve never cooked or baked with them. That’s gotta change.
- Maybe I need to move 2.5 hours east to Raleigh…
- I recently converted my desk at work so I can alternate between sitting and standing. (I’ll tell you more later about how I did it.) Here are two articles that I should give to my coworkers who are teasing me.
The Week in Fitness
S – Bikram Yoga
M – Bikram Yoga
T – Elliptical
W – Running (intervals)
Th – Body Pump
F – 30 min elliptical
S – Run 8 miles, 9:15 pace
What’s your favorite day-off-work activity? Usually I love going to classes at the gym that I typically can’t because of work, but I’m feeling like today needs to be a rest day.

Generally my days off begin with a huge list of things I should do, I always plan that the day will give me an opportunity to get caught up on that never ending list that stands between me and … well I don’t know what because usually I end up sleeping in, taking it easy, and forgetting about the list until it’s already too late.

Jealous of your day off! I vote you relax and watch bad tv like hoarders or say yes to the dress
miss your face!
I don’t have off today
But it was nice driving in with no traffic! My fave day off activity would probably be watching movies and snuggling up on the couch, so lazy haha.

Yum I adore figs. Here is another good fig recipe:

Really easy and inpressive.
I am looking forward to more details on how you converted your desk! I seem to be addicted to your blog.

I’d kill to have the day off. Seriously. Nothing is worse than driving into work when the streets are empty. Would love to join you.
“Stay in bed; listen to good music” is ALWAYS the right answer when curious about how to spend a day off!
I wish I could use my day off in some other way besides grading and getting caught up with work. Oy! Jealousy! I am grading, grading, grading and then running some errands.
What I LOVE to do on a day off is sit in a chair with a good book and read to my heart’s content.
Brunch and a matinee is one of my favorite ways to spend a day off! Hope you enjoy a relaxing day!
I’m craving shrimp scampi with linguini tonight, too. If I can turn off the Chopped and Bones episodes on my DVR and go out to buy some. Yum!
