Hi friends! I hope you had a great week! I’m currently sitting at one of my very favorite places in Winston Salem, Camino Bakery. I just had a wine/bread/cheese outing with a friend and am now catching up on emails and blogging. I’m also hearing bits and pieces of a conversation happening next to me about a girl who can juggle. Random.
Today was a really fun today. I had a great long run and then cleaned my house like crazy. I’m sucky at keeping a clean, organized home (heck, I even suck at changing the toilet paper as displayed in one of my Instagram photos today).
But today I cleaned for a good 2.5 hours and it’s soooo nice to walk into a kitchen and living room free of clutter. Next up, the office. (Shudder.)
After my cleaning frenzy, I had coffee with a bestie (she makes a mean at-home capuchino) and then we went to a baby shower. In the South, everyone wears dresses to baby showers, so it was a good excuse to bust out the plum Holliday dress that Five Bamboo sent me. (THANKS Five Bamboo friends!) Like everything else I’ve worn from Five Bamboo, this dress is super comfy and super soft. I love this rich, bright color too. (Remember the green one that they sent me? I like this purple one much better!)
Dress: FiveBamboo
Watch: Michael Kors from Bevello
Bracelet: J.Crew Classic Jenna
Necklace: boutique in Seattle
Shoes: Nine West
After the baby shower, my friend and I got some take-out from Chipotle (their salad with black beans and guacamole are muy delicioso) and hung out for a bit. Then I came home and did some laundry before heading out with another friend. Sounds like a busy day, but it was actually pretty relaxing. I love days that are full but not busy.
This day is about over and I have a full day tomorrow of car washing/vacuuming and tons more laundry so I better get the Weekender up before it’s Monday and I’m (once again) apologizing for a non-weekend Weekender.
The Weekender
- Have your resolutions faded? Based on the crowded cardio section at the gym, most people are hanging onto their resolutions. But in case your resolve is waning, here are 100 reasons to run.
- Um, a yoga retreat in Tuscany?! Yes please.
- The Huff has ranked the best natural peanut butters. Do you agree with their picks?
- I added Mama Pea’s Magic Kale Salad with Pistachios and Apples to my menu for the upcoming week.
- hahahahaa! Boxers are the best. Maizey wants a trampoline now.
- A while ago I shared a link for 30 Things to Stop Doing to Yourself. That same website has since posted a follow-up post: 30 Things to START doing for Yourself. I love both posts equally.
The Week in Fitness
S – Ran 8 miles in 64 minutes, interval training (treadmill)
M – Bikram Yoga
T – Ran 5.5 miles (treadmill)
W – 40 minutes elliptical + Women’s Health magazine
Th – rest
F – 40 minutes elliptical + Steve Jobs’ biography
S – 10(ish) mile run (outside, my Garmin died towards the end)
What do you wear to a baby shower and what part of the country are you in? I always wore a nicer outfit, like dark jeans and a nice top, before moving to NC. But now I feel like a dress is the norm.

1. I tried powdered peanut butter this week. Though it is only 45 calories for 2 tablespoons. It was weird, and I’ll still to my super chunk, thank you very much!

2. I’m glad to see you don’t buy crappy (read: scratchy/thin/papertowelesque) toilet paper. I think toilet paper is one of those little luxuries in life that every should indulge in.

I’m TOTALLY picky about toilet paper!
We are so much more relaxed out here in Colorado, but growing up in Texas it’s dresses all the way for showers! Love weekends that are busy but not

I always wear dresses to showers, but not everyone does. I feel like they’re important events and the mom to be or the bride to be will be dressed up a little bit, so the guests should be too!

I always wear a dress or a nice top and skirt..but I’m also born and raised in NC. I’ve had out-of-state friends comment to me that when they moved here people dress up more for things like parties. But I think it’s probably a southern thing, not a North Carolina thing.
I cracked up when I saw your instagram pic because I’m totally guilty of the same thing! As far as PB goes, I just discovered Peanut Butter and Company’s Dark Chocolate version! It’s like eating a melted Reese cup
. I also love “Better n Peanut Butter,” although that’s totally not natural!!
PS- love Bikram!
I do that with the toilet paper too!
I guess it just depends on where the shower is held for me. I live in Atlanta. It’s the south, yes, but I feel like most of the people that I’m friends with here aren’t from Atlanta so it’s not as Southern feeling as some other parts of the south.

Also, i tried on some nude heels the other day and didn’t buy them and now, looking at your picture, i wish i did. maybe a trip back to dsw is in my immediate future.

I grew up in NC under the dress rule, but the first baby shower I attended here in WI floored me. People showed up in jeans and sweatshirts/tshirts etc. I was definitely the most dressed up, way more so than the mom to be even!
I love that purple dress! All the Five Bamboo stuff is gorgeous. Its still a little out of my price range though. Boo!
I definitely do that with the toilet paper too! I don’t know why – whenever I properly change it, I think “Boy, this is easy! Why don’t I do this all the time?” But then I never do.
I’ve never actually been to a baby shower! I’m sure it’ll be coming soon!
I think I’d wear a dress just because I love an excuse to wear a dress!

We’re all about wearing dresses to everything in Florida! Southern ladies just love their dresses.
Nice runs, btw! I am very impressed!

My peanut butter ranked number 6 so I’m pretty happy
I love wearing dresses because they are so comfortable! And you can wear them anywhere just by changing your shoes and jewelry to make in more casual or fancy.
Mmm, I hope you love the salad as much I do!

you look so fine in that purple dress Teri!

I live in the Midwest and, depending on the mom-to-be, I would totally wear cute dress to a baby shower.
PS I am LOVING the purple dress and nude heel combo–adorable!

How do you get all of that reading done on the elliptical? I always feel like my head’s bobbing around too much to see the words clearly

I just went to a baby shower over the weekend and I wore dark wash skinny jeans with a nice top and boots. I wanted to wear a dress, but I knew I’d be “overdressed” so I didn’t. I’m in Colorado, and I love the idea of dressing up for baby showers!
