Good morning! I woke up bright and early this morning and went for a run. Since I hurt my foot (injured, unglamorously, by chasing Maizey in ballet flats) I haven’t been able to consistently run in about 3 months and haven’t run at all for the past 4-5 weeks…maybe longer. And per doc’s orders, for 3 weeks straight, I didn’t do any cardio – only circuit weight training and yoga. Also per doc’s orders, I’ve been icing a ton and taking an anti-inflammatory.
My foot has felt a lot better the past week, so I eased into running on Sunday with a very easy run on the treadmill. I didn’t have any pain afterwards so I took a couple days off just to be safe and then tried again today but ran outside. Success! I’m so excited to start getting back into running! It’s when you can’t run that you really miss it.
I have two races scheduled this fall – a half marathon and a 10K and I’d love to PR at both of them. That would mean my half marathon would need to be under 1:49, which I ran at the Mistletoe Half Marathon in 2011 (which I registered for the night before!). My 10K would, well, actually, I don’t think I’ve ever run a 10K so that’s an easy PR.
What fall races are you looking forward to? I was just looking through some old race pictures and I’m kiiiind of getting the itch to do another full marathon. We’ll see how long that lasts.
If you have a favorite marathon, tell me that too pretty please, just in case that itch sticks around.
Have a great day! Talk to ya later!

Ah girl that is so exciting! I am so happy you are pain-free
:) You are going to rock both races this fall!!
thanks jessie!
Yay! I’m excited for you–it always feels so good when your body allows you to get back to something you enjoy.
Hopefully I get there soon, too, since I hurt my leg hiking last week. Boo!

I’m planning to do a couple of 5ks in the fall and one 10k. The 10k will probably be in early November– there are two that look good in Raleigh around then. I’m also planning to do this Monster Dash 5k near Halloween that looks super fun because everyone dresses up in costume

I’m just starting to get back into running also due to my painful IT band, and I’m using the couch-to-5k program for some structure. Hope you continue to feel good while running!

I’m SUPPOSED to be training for my first 1/2 marathon but it’s not looking good! This heat wave in NY has zapped all my motivation to run since it’s still in the high 80s when I had been running (around 7pm). And I just get way too bored on the treadmill to do some serious mileage. Excuses, excuses, I know.
But I’m so glad you’re recovered! I know you were bummed about not being able to run!
I’m glad your foot is feeling better!!! Was it a top of foot issue?

Glad your foot is healed!
I just started training for my first marathon last week. Yikes! I’m doing the Marine Corps Marathon at the end of October.

I have a 5 miler at the end of the week that I have NOT trained for at all BUT since it’s my first time at the distance, it’s an automatic PR
Glad to hear your foot’s doing better!

Glad you foot is feeling better! The race I’m looking forward to is only a 5K, but it will be a lot of fun I think. I’m doing the Color Run in Des Moines in October with my sister! I’m a beginner runner and I’m using the Couch to 5K program which I really like!
Well, obviously you should run the Big Sur marathon
OBVIOUSLY.
I love that you injured your foot that way. Well not that you injured your foot, but that there’s somebody out there who’s as much of a klutz as myself!
I’m glad you’ve been able to get back at it. Being injured SUCKS.
I haven’t signed up for any races, but I need to. I have been hesitant to sign up for the Des Moines Marathon Half because I feel like a loser for not running the full marathon. My PR time is the same as yours, so I’d have to bust ass to beat it. I beat my old PR by 20 minutes last time, so I’m content with that.
I do want to PR my 10K. I’ve only run 1 before and I should sign up for another to have a reason to build up my mileage. Thanks for the idea!

Run for Mercy in Nashville this fall and MAYBE my first half next spring in Lexington?? We’ll see
Glad you can run again!!

Congrats on your return to running! I know how good it feels to return after a long (injury-induced) hiatus.
