Skin Care Update + Simone France Giveaway

[GIVEAWAY CLOSED]

Hi guys! Happy November. Um, woah, how did it get here so fast? I started off my day with a power flow class at Village Yoga. Since I’ve been running more, I’ve noticed some tightness in my IT band, hamstrings and lower back. Instead of letting it get worse and then ending up with an injury or in physical therapy, I’m listening to my body and making sure I fit in yoga once a week to keep my muscles loose.

It was a busy day at work today with many meetings and lately, I’ve been letting myself feel very stressed. I’ve been trying to remember to maintain a state of “ease” and also to take a few minutes each day just to sit and breathe. Not exactly meditation, but just sitting, no phone, no computer, and taking deep full breaths. It’s hard to remember to do it, but if stress is really contributing to my breakouts, I’m willing to give it a try.

A few of you asked for an update since I’ve been using Cosmedix. Unfortunately, it’s not working for me. I’m still having pretty severe breakouts and my skin feels really tight and uncomfortable. I also got a Clarisonic. Doesn’t seem to be helping either. So…. I’m going back to the Simone France line. I’m really excited to see if I have the same good results as the last time I used it.

And, speaking of Simone France, they actually sent me a body scrub and lotion to try a few weeks ago – Body Buff & Body Glow. (This gift from them had no impact on my decision to buy their face products again…I’ll be spending my own money on the facial skincare products.) I’m really bad at remembering to exfoliate so I was eager to try these products.

Sfimage from SimoneFrance.com

The scrub smells divine and it’s the perfect scrubbiness – not too harsh or too gentle. The citrusy sugar scrub dissolves fairy quickly in the warm water and my skin feels soft and moisturized after massaging it on my legs, arms, everywhere but my face. 🙂 It’s made with oil so it has that slight oil film remaining (there has to be a better way to describe that…), but if you didn’t want that, you could just wash it off with soap. I always leave it because I love how it feels. So soothing and moisturizing! I keep the scrub in my shower and use it once a week. And the Body Glow is my new go-to daily lotion. It’s light and non-greasy, absorbs quickly and leaves my skin very soft.

The lovely folks at Simone France graciously offered to give a scrub and lotion set to one of my readers. To enter, just leave a comment telling me your favorite sandwich! (Sandwiches are on my mind since I just read about their sandwich method…I actually don’t really like sandwiches very often unless it’s a grilled cheese and since I can’t eat good cheese….sigh… anyway, I digress. Sandwich! Go!)

BTW, the votes for a budget post won so I’ve got that in the works. I also have the running post in a draft stage too so I’ll please everyone eventually. Well, not everyone, but at least my readers that asked for it. 🙂 You can’t please everyone and it’s simply no way to live trying to do so.

My favorite sandwich is #32 The Italian Job at a little local deli in my hometown. It is italian meats and fresh mozzarella. What makes it killer is the oil and vinegar dressing. The wife of the owner makes it daily and the recipe is top secret. Even her husband does not know the recipe. So FAB!!

My favorite sandwich is a BLT! Always so delicious and you can add pimento cheese or guacamole and make it even better!!

That I make: BLT
That I order: The Grandpa Smith (turkey, granny smith apples, gouda, and mustard on crusty grain bread)

I hate making sandwiches, so often resort to crunchy peanut butter with honey. But my favorite sandwich is Jimmy John’s gourmet veggie – the avocado spread is my delicious!

I always side with sweets, even when it comes to sandwiches, so almond butter and strawberries (or even better, chocolate hazelnut butter and strawberries or banana) for me.

Grilled cheddar on sour dough with tomatoes…that is my fav!

My favorite is Thanksgiving leftovers (turkey, stuffing, potatoes, and cranberry sauce) on a crispy baguette! Holy yum! I’m hungry thinking about it!

My favorite sandwich depends on my mood. If I want comfort it’s a classic PB&J on whole wheat toast ( the PB gets melts). But mostly it’s hummus on sprouted grain bread with whatever veggies I have on hand with sriracha. I don’t have sandwiches often but when I do it’s one of those.

My favorite sandwich is a fluffernutter (peanut butter + marshmellow fluff)! Maybe not the healthiest thing ever, but that’s okay!

I really like turkey and cranberry sandwiches!

I have been using acne.org products and they have been working pretty well..although they are supposed to take a while, and I still have been having hormonal breakouts, offf course.

I’ve had major problems with my skin since I was about 11 or 12, I think (pretty much as long as I can remember!) so I feel your pain. I’m pretty much willing to try anything to clear up my skin, too. I hope you find what works for you! Unfortunately, I think it’s pretty common to find something that works for awhile, and then have to change your routine once in awhile as time passes/ your environment changes, etc. Anyways, my favorite sandwich is grilled peanut butter and banana (sometimes with honey). Yum!

I may be the only person in the world but I’m not a huge fan of sandwiches. I think it’s the bread to filling ratio. I usually just pick the insides out and eat it 🙂 But I had the BEST sandwich of my life this summer. It was an Italian with tons of deli meat and this awesome Italian dressing! So delicious and perfect

My favorite sandwich is the Turkey Pesto sandwich at Remedy Diner in Raleigh. Actually, next time you’re here you need to try this place. Lots of veggie/vegan options but lots for us meat-eaters too. It has turkey, pesto mayo, bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato. mm!

Homemade is just a plain grilled cheese! When I go out I like to get the BLTA at a local restaurant called NOFO @ The Pig. It’s on Hawaii bread and has brie cheese and pepper jelly on it. Drooling right now just thinking about it 🙂

This sandwich from an amazing little bakery in the town where I go to law school (Lawrence, KS): Turkey & Cranberry Relish ~ Turkey breast roasted daily, accented with garden greens, fresh mayonnaise on Multigrain bread. I LOVE it and try really hard to just get it once a month or so. That turkey is to die for.

I love a caprese sandwich . . . basil (or pesto), mozarella, and big chunky tomatos! P.S.- Clarisonics are awesome, but it takes a long time of consistency to see the results. I used mine for a year, before I looked up and realized that somewhere over the past year, my skin turned from blah to gorgeous!

Grilled cheese sounds amazing now! And I can’t eat dairy or gluten, either, so it’s tempting but off-limits.

Also, after oil-cleansing methods, different creams, soaps, etc I finally sucked it up and started Accutane. I’m SO glad I did.

89 Ashley November 4, 2012 at

Definitely gluten-free, lactose free grilled cheese. I use udi’s millet chia bread. Also, did you know Cabot’s cheddar cheese is naturally lactose-free? I don’t know if you’re sensitive to lactose, or casein, but part of the aging process naturally eliminates lactose in their aged cheddar cheeses, and it’s delish. I’m super sensitive to lactose and I’ve never had a problem. Also, Trader Joe’s makes this “lacy colby jack” it’s has a swiss cheese appearance to it, which is lactose free and is SO, SO good.
