About Teri

Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog! How about I give you a little TMI so you know who is behind A Foodie Stays Fit? Let’s go!

My first name is TeriLyn. I usually go by Teri. (But really prefer TeriLyn. Oh, and it’s Teri-Lyn, not TerAlyn.) Nice to meet you!

  • I’m 28 years old.
  • I was raised in Utah, but currently live in North Carolina.
  • I have a boxer named Maizey. I’m slightly obsessed with her, as you may have figured out by the fact that she gets her own page on my blog.

  • I really love food. Good food. Real food. I believe in putting wholesome food (not food products) into my body. On a daily basis, I eat a lot of leafy greens, lean meat, fish, nuts, quinoa, rice, and wine. :) I eat gluten-free, dairy-free and soy-free as much as possible. I figured out a lot of my health issues were related to those products so I avoid them 99% of the time. The hardest to avoid is soy.
  • I was a vegetarian for a few years, and then a pescatarian (i.e. fish eater, not a meat eater) for a few years. But I introduced meat back into my diet about 6 months ago and have been feeling great!
  • I love to bake. I ate my mom’s famous homemade bread my whole life and still love to bake it myself when I want to splurge on gluten or want to take something to my neighbors.
  • I love running. I’ve run one marathon, three 180-mile relay races, multiple half marathons and 5K-10Ks. Check out my Races page for pictures and times! I’m also a certified group fitness and Les Mills RPM instructor, but am not currently teaching.
  • I regularly practice yoga. I was a Bikram (hot yoga) addict in the past but am currently hooked on Vinyasa and Power Flow. I also took up Pure Barre a few months ago.
  • I have five brothers. And I’m the only girl. And the youngest. I wasn’t spoiled…I just happen to be the favorite. ;)

  • I love traveling and being outdoors. I desperately miss the Utah mountains.

  • I work full-time at a bank. No, I’m not a teller. I’m work in Advertising on the Digital Strategy team.
  • I keep a Brita filter at my desk. I drink a lot of water. And green tea.
  • I love red wine.
  • I hate cucumbers.
  • I change my hair a lot. I’ve had it very long, very short and everything in between. It’s been platinum blonde, a more natural-looking blonde, black, all shades of brown, red, auburn, and I’ve even had maroon highlights.

ha ha ha!!! I just found your blog, love your about page and I can’t wait to read more :) I have been a barista at Starbucks and few people have screamed at me… mostly when we were out of whipped cream. However I too screamed back the other day, when I tried the cake pops, screamed in delight!

Miss Teri – I know you teach spin classes… are you also a certified group ex instructor? If so, with whom did you get your cert from? I’m interested in learning more about your fitness journey/career :)

Fantastic blog, I’m really enjoying it. Just curious though, when mentioning where you work, why did you feel that you had to say you were not a teller. Why just tell us what your title or job is at the bank. ??

A girl has gotta have some secrets, right? ;)

Actually when I wrote this, I worked in an area that’s deals with confidential information and just preferred not to share. But now I work in Marketing and love to talk about it!

I love this! …and all your different hair colors ;)

I have yet to read “In Defense of Food” – on my list. I do eat meat though…not like 5 times a day! I am a die-hard Veggie lover, whole-grains, yogurt, etc. But still enjoy my chicken, fish and eggs.

Could be worst!

I love the red. Is it one you can share or do you just have a great hairdresser?

Reply

20 Teri 10/17/2011 at 5:35 pm

I just had a great hairdresser. However, the brighter red that I had for a while was a DIY color:

The color combination is:

*2/3 bottle of 607 Cyclamen
*1/3 bottle of 445 Light Auburn
1/4 bottle of 507 Burgundy

ONE PART is the above mixture to TWO parts of developer #10 with a splash of #20. All purchased at Sally Hansen. :)

Thanks for sharing. I am really into clean eating, eating real food, and I love the health benefits I get as a result of eating this way. I’m in the Midwest so it’s great to find like minded individuals. I appreciate you putting yourself out there and providing such great info. Thanks again.

I have been having skin problems for a few years now too. I avoided the teenage problems, but it flared up when I was 21. I still have hormonal acne, but I find that using over-the-counter Clean and Clear acne solution really does help, and I honestly feel like I will always have a few pimples during my period, and that’s just how it is. Haha. I do have some scarring as well which has gotten so much better after using retinol cream. My doc recommended it and it does help slowly. You can get it on amazon for about $10, and it lasts months.

Great blog, but you come off as sort of pretentious with the “No, I’m not a teller” bit. Does your advertising job make you leaps and bounds more comfortable with yourself than if you were some lowly bank teller?

Reply

43 Teri [a foodie stays fit] 01/06/2014 at 12:30 am

haha definitely not! It’s just “are you a teller?” is the most common question I get when I tell people I work at a bank. :) I certainly didn’t mean for anyone to interpret it as pretentious.

Oh my gosh, I feel like we’re the same person! I grew up in Utah, with 6 brothers, me being the youngest and only girl too! Does everyone ask you if you were spoiled too? More like picked on, am I right? I lived in south Carolina for a time, so close to north Carolina! I sure miss those beautiful Utah mountains too! They’re my favorite thing in the world! Also, found your blog through a guest post you did about your trip to Switzerland paris and rome. My husband and I did that EXACT same trip. How awesome was Gimmewald!? I want to retire there!
