About Teri
Please see below for TMI.

My first name is TeriLyn. I usually go by Teri. (But really prefer TeriLyn.) I’m 27 years old, was raised in Utah, but currently live in North Carolina. I have a boxer named Maizey (although, I often refer to her as “the puppa” or “the boxer dog.”) I’m slightly obsessed with her, as you may have figured out by the fact that she gets her own page on my blog.

I really love food. Good food. Real food. I believe in putting wholesome food (not food products) into my body. If you’ve read In Defense of Food, you’ll have a pretty good idea of my food philosophies. On a daily basis, I eat a lot of produce, whole grains, yogurt, beans and legumes, and nut butters. When we dine out, it’s usually at a local restaurant with good food. We don’t think it’s worth it to spend money on mediocre food and you’ll very rarely see us eating at a restaurant that does TV commercials.
I’m not a meat lover, nor am I an official vegetarian. I don’t eat meat often for various reasons (e.g. health, environment, ethics, taste, laziness) and tend to use beans, quinoa, eggs and tempeh as my main protein sources. When I do eat meat, I try to eat grass-fed, hormone-free meat. And a few times a year, I can’t help but eat North Carolina BBQ (Eastern style, preferably). The hushpuppies draw me in. Oh, hushpuppies…how I love thee.
I love to bake. I ate homemade bread my whole life and still love to bake it myself. I make whole-wheat flax bread on a regular basis and also try out more gourmet breads once in a while (usually from Peter Reinhart’s book, The Bread Baker’s Apprentice: Mastering the Art of Extraordinary Bread). I love to bake cookies of all kinds, which is kind of a problem since I tend to eat the majority of them myself.
I’ve run two 180-mile relay races, multiple half marathons and 5K-10Ks, and ran my first marathon in October 2009. You can read about my marathon here, here, here, here and here. I teach group fitness classes at a few gyms (spin and weight-lifting) and don’t stretch nearly as much as I should.
post-marathon picture
I have five brothers. And I’m the only girl. And the youngest. I wasn’t spoiled…I just happen to be the favorite.
I love travelling.
I work full-time at a bank. No, I’m not a teller. I’m in Marketing.
I keep a Brita filter at my desk. I drink a lot of water. And green tea.
I think if I ever entered an ice cream eating contest, I would win.
I hate cucumbers.
I love dark chocolate.
You may have noticed, I change my hair a lot. I’ve had it very long, very short and everything in between. It’s been platinum blonde, a more natural-looking blonde, black, all shades of brown, red, auburn, and I’ve even had maroon highlights.
There you go. TMI.

I am dying. Let’s hear it : )
haha! I’m working on it….
Yay, a great read
I haven’t heard of Amano chocolate, but now I’m going to look for it…
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed.
Good luck – it can be hard to find. My favorite is the Ocumare if you can track it down.
So I saw the chocolate at $tarbuck$, but it’s freaking expensive – no Amano for me anytime soon : )
I know…it really is. But save your pennies because it’s worth it!
Even though I already know you…its fun to read the random tid bits!
Can you give me your wheat bread recipe? I also love to make homemade bread, but am kind of tired of the recipe I have now.
I’m so glad you liked it! And I’m so happy you are reading. And you have no idea how happy it makes me that you comment!
Sure, I’ll post my bread recipe later this week. Can you wait that long? If not, I’ll just email it to you.
love your story! you and your hubski are adorable
your hair looks great in all the colors – you pull all of it off!! if i changed from brunette to blonde i would look like a freak. can’t wait to keep reading
Aw, thanks Andrea! I do think I’m lucky that I can pull off many colors (but I’ve had plenty of disaster shades, trust me!).
thanks for stopping by the blog! that was a great “last bite” tip
I used to change my hair ALL THE TIME, but now I’m in the middle of growing it out (a big change!) and I’m loving it
can’t wait to read more!
Love how your personality totally comes through in this! Boxers are easy to become obsessed with…Dakota’s favorite thing at the current moment is pushing her body up as tight against the wall as possible where the heat vent is. She sits up and whimpers when it turns off. Love your changing hairstyles and your take on FOOD [mine is super similar]! Definitely will have to meet up at some point =)
You’re adorable!
I love that you’ve rocked every color and style of hair!!!
http://www.emilyeatsclean.wordpress.com
I guess I can wait that long
No really, that’s totally fine! It’s not hard for me to comment..your writing is entertaining and you’re talking about two of my passions as well! I love it.
You really can pull off a lot of different ‘dos. I’m a fan of the long, brunette locks : )
Thanks Hillary! I always like to know which style people like best.
I just found your blog and I LOVE it! I can’t wait to read more. I just started healthy living blogging, and I’m totally obsessed with my dog, too, so I can really relate to you
Thanks for stopping by Michelle! I’ll check out your blog too!
What part of NC? My hubby is from Roanoke Rapids…like 45 min north of Raleigh
I’m in Winston Salem.
You work at a bank? Hooray for bankers that love food! I have worked in credit unions since I graduated from high school – I am not a teller either, although I’ve been one before! (I’m a compliance manager) I love that you change your hair – it always looks cute. And I love the Brita filter at your desk idea – I might have to try that. I hate drinking the psuedo-filtered water here at the office, but the idea of bringing like 8 bottles of water sounds ridiculous. And not so great for the environment!
I think a lot of bankers love food, but not all bankers love good food.
And thanks for the compliment on my hair. It’s one way I spice up my life!
Seriously, the Brita filter is awesome. Assuming you have a restroom close by!
i’m so happy i just found your blog! i love it, and you’re hysterical.
Why thank you.
You’re story of meeting your husband is so cute. And it sounds like you stay busy with banking, baking, wifing, and fitness class. I look forward to reading more.
“wifing” – I LOVE it.
I have to stay busy since my husband is so busy all the time!
Wow, loved reading through this. I really want to hear the rest of the hubby story!
You guys are both adorable! great wit you have girl
Love all the hair style and color changes!
thanks!
Hey Teri!
I can’t believe it has taken me this long to find you! Girl, I LOVE your blog! You are so adorable and everything I have read about you reminds me soooooo soooo much of myself. I am so happy that you commented on my site because I was able to stumble over here and meet you!
Hope we can keep in touch.
Take care always! <3
Lauren
Thank you so much! I love reading your blog too. I’m a follower and read all your posts!
GIMME MAIZEY! gah. so cute! thanks for commenting on my blog so i could find yours
gotta love the SLC pride!! so awesome that you are an avid runner. i admire that for sure. were you at the ben harper/jj concert at usana? if so, i was there!! and i would totally challenge you in an ice cream eating contest! it would be a battle most definitely. annnyway, i will stop rambling now. xo!
I went to Ben Harper/JJ concert at Deer Valley. Seriously AHHHHmazing. I didn’t know they did a combo show again!! I saw JJ at Usana by himself and didn’t like him at that venue as much.
Next time I’m in Utah, we should have a blogger get-together and base all it around ice cream!
Just realized I hadn’t read your ‘about me’ yet, so just did. Man- you are one lucky lady! You can really rock any hairstyle, color, you name it- so pretty! I was going to say which I liked best, but they are seriously all rockin!
I love your thought from when you first saw your husband. The night I met Ryan (only for about 5 minutes and was forced to give him my #) I went home and told my mom I met the guy I was going to marry. We’ve got great intuition!
~CK
Thanks for the compliment about my hair! You’re sweet.
That’s funny you thought the same thing about your hubby! I love it!
I just randomly found you blog through some comments on another. Looks like we follow a similar food philosophy except I’m not pescatarian. I’ve actually never read In Defense of Food but so many people have told me I’d love it. It’s on my list with 2098 other books.
Okay so I think it is RAD that you change your hair so much. That was the first page I looked at on here. I was trying to decide which one I liked best but couldn’t because you look so dang cute in all of them!
I knew I was going to marry my husband the moment I saw him too. He was my next door neighbor and I met him on my doorstep. We were engaged 3 months later and will celebrate our 11th anniversary this year.
Anyway I’m glad I stopped by…nice to *meet* you.
Thanks for stopping by! And thank you for supporting my OCHCS (Obsessive Compulsive Hair Changing Syndrome).
That’s so cool about your hubby!
Hi~ I found your site through Earth Muffin. Your photos are adorable! What a cute family.. especially the dog – she melts my heart! OMG I am a vegetarian and am wondering if you have ever tried it or are you working towards that goal? Also, why do you choose to include fish? For me, fish fall in the category along with farm animals.. I have to admit that before I was exposed to the harsh reality of animal cruelty in factory farming (like 15 years ago) I was just like the next person but when I found out and was able, I made the full switch within a few months. Being vegetarian helps the planet, animals and your health. You’ve got a great site, I will be bookmarking it.
thanks for visiting! I initially stopped eating poultry and meat just because I don’t like the taste or texture. And then I started realizing how much better I felt without it in my diet. And then I started learning more about the ethical/environmental reasons for not eating chicken/pork/beef so that helped me avoid it even more. I don’t have digestive issues with fish, so that’s the main reason I haven’t given that up [plus, I LOVE it] but I also don’t know much about fish farming. I do try to buy wild seafood as much as possible and really only eat seafood a couple times a month. Do you have any suggested reading about fish farming?
I don’t think I’ll ever be 100% vegetarian or vegan, but when I do eat animal products, I try to be conscious of the quality and background of it.
Thanks for your comment and thoughts!
Thanks for your reply. Here are some sites I found: http://animalrights.about.com/od/animalsusedforfood/a/FishFarming.htm

I found these to be very detailed and informative. I hope these help you.
Teri..
Being a hair stylist, I must agree with the above.. I can’t believe how you can pull off any style not to mention color!!! Not many can do the full spectrum of color and still be hot~:)
I am a newbie blogger and am looking for any and all helpful hints for mine.. would you be so kind when you have a minute to check it out and give me some feed back???
thanks so much and I look forward to many happy readings on yours!

I just wanted to come stop by your blog and say hello! Thanks for entering the giveaway. I notice we have some similar interests and I love the look of your site. I’ll probably be back to check more out soon.
I haven’t any idea why it took me so long to find your blog! Our blogroll is pretty much identical and I’m loving reading so far- funny, up-beat, and good lookin foods. The boxer puppy photo is adorableeee! I’ll be around
haha! You’re right; we do have the same blog roll! I’m glad you stopped by; love your blog – cool concept! I’m following now.
Just found your blog, it’s pretty good!
10-4 on the eating healthy, I’ve come around recently. HUGE 10-4 on the nasty black bean brownies… got tricked into them once. Thought about sandpapering my mouth afterward.
Gonna be in western NC for a ‘running event’ in late August and could use a pacer(s) for the 2nd half (or part of it). You or anyone you know free on the weekend of the 28th? all trail, no road, lots of hills, lots of miles. Don’t need to mule my stuff or anything just keep me moving.
Glad you like the blog Don! I don’t know anyone that is into hard-core trail running, but I’ll keep my ears open and let you know if I find anyone around here that would want to be your pacer. Sounds fun and a little crazy!
Hey Teri!! Just found your blog and love it. I also work in a bank and i as well am not a teller. hehe. Keep up the great blogging!!!
wassup fellow non-teller banker?
Thanks for stopping by!
Girl, you are stunning!
I change my hair a lot, too!
You are so nice! Hair changing keeps life interesting.
I just found your blog-you are too cute! I will have to tell one of my besties about you-she is a hair stylist and her hair changes constantly. I’m boring and my hair has never seen a drop of color
Looking forward to reading more!
Thanks for stopping by! Um, sometimes I wish I’d never started coloring my hair! haha!
You’ll have to tell me what style/color your friend likes best. Usually stylists have a pretty strong opinion about that sort of thing.
Hi! Thanks so much for commenting on my blog because now I’ve found yours!
I love your story! I can’t wait to read more!!!
Really?!?! You’re 25, too? I’d pegged you for older! (I feel ridiculous typing this. I hear it from people all the time, so somehow it’s silly for me to say.)
But wow! I think I love you even more now. (Hehehe!)
hahaha! my whole life people have thought I’m older than I am. I hope that starts to change in a few years though.
being a hairstylist I have to agree with the above comments.. you can rock any color and cut!!! HOw lucky for you.. not many can do that..especially color!!
I am excited to have found you as I too am a foodie that wants to stay fit:)
I am newbie blogger and am looking for any helpful comments and suggestions on my site if you ever feel the desire or have extra time to check it out!!
happy easter!!
http://www.integrativehappiness.com
I love that you are so open to changing your hair. I’ve literally had the same “long layered” look forever. Plus, you rock your styles sooo amazingly! Congrats on all your races. You are definitely a fit foodie!
Ooh, have you ever tried chocolove? it’s amazing chocolate. My fav is the dark chocolate w/ raspberries inside. http://chocolove.com/
Yes and I LOVED it! i haven’t tried the raspberry kind though. I’ll have to check it out!
Your family is beautiful!
That puppy is the sweetest! Glad to have found your blog! I’ll be following!
I love that you change your hair all the time! I do too! You look gorgeous in every single hairstyle, so you are a lucky girl!
Cute, cute story. Bank by day, workout/health novice by night and odd hours:)
Fantastic pics! I have no doubt you’re a champ, but I’d be a close second in the ice cream contest lady.
All the best doll!
I am pretty obsessed with hair in general and I think yours is fabulous!
I love dark chocolate too. Have you tried Trader Joe’s 72% Dark Chocolate? I can’t find anything, anywhere in the world that tastes better than that bar!
Great pictures!
Thank you!
I haven’t tried that Trader Joe’s chocolate. There isn’t a Trader Joe’s near me – the closest one is 1.5 hours away!
I found your site through Anne P’s comment sections and have already read through your last few posts! I love your TMI About Me section! I look forward to reading more!
Hi Teri, I just found your blog and wanna say hi~ Can’t wait to read more!
I hate cucumbers too!!!! Ahhhh so nice to find someone else out there who tries to eat well but doesn’t like cucumbers. I feel like they are in soooo many recipes! I found your site through The Edible Perspective. I really want to read In Defense of Food, but first I am going to start with The Omnivore’s Dilemma!
Great About Me page…I need to create one as awesome as yours!
